Builder

Abou, born and raised in Dakar, has worked in the construction industry since he was a boy. He moved to Italy, to the city of Venice, where he has lived for more than 30 years, running a construction company that is still active today.

In addition to his work in the construction industry, he has been engaged as a linguistic-cultural mediator, leading cultural interventions at public and private schools in the Veneto region for more than 20 years, to introduce Senegalese culture and, where necessary, facilitate the integration of foreign pupils. He has also collaborated in mediation at the Office for Unaccompanied Minors in Venice.
He was a founding member of the Teranga association, established to facilitate the integration of Senegalese migrants in the Venetian territory, and the dissemination of Senegalese culture, through music and food festivals.

During his years of work in Italy, he was able to refine his construction and finishing techniques and had the opportunity to deepen his knowledge of bio architecture by taking a number of training courses on sustainability, construction techniques, alternative materials to concrete, and unfired clay.

At the same time he has always maintained contact with Senegal, visiting even the most remote places to admire its cultural and environmental diversity.

During these trips he noticed the difference between traditional clay construction methods, which can keep rooms cool even during the hottest periods, compared to concrete constructions that heat up more easily.
This observation prompted him to promote the use of unfired clay starting with his own home.

Since he began the construction of his house in Petite Cote in 2017, he has stayed in Senegal longer and longer, acquiring first-hand knowledge about the needs related to the environment. Such as the construction of the porch of the house, to benefit from the shade during different times of the day, the canopies, essential to experience the outdoor environment, the choice of quality raw materials to last over time, and many other elements.

ANDREA DEGAN

Architect

Andrea was born and raised in Mestre. He graduated from Liceo Artistico and then graduated from the Faculty of Architecture in Venice in architectural design, with top marks.

During his studies he carried out various work experiences, especially in the field of exhibition design, in the world of art and the Venice Biennale in particular. In addition, in his city he has always been involved in the world of volunteering and associationism, performing… After finishing university and two years of training at other firms, he began an independent path, centered on design in direct contact with the end user.

The opportunity to work in Africa presented itself after 20 years of experience in Italy, carried out mainly with new housing projects and renovation and expansion of existing housing.

After several trips to Senegal with Abou, he directed his efforts toward bio architecture, respecting the environment and health, sharing with the Fayeen team a particular sensibility for an elegant and eco-sustainable style of construction.
